The adjustment was based on the 1984 supreme court decision as an exception where immediate “public safety” is in question. The current exception isn’t without boundaries. Yes, based on the 1984 ruling it was reasonable because they needed to know if he had other plans in action. They did Mirandize him later.

I’m concerned that he’s open to rethinking expanding it. Expanding it to what end? Is all of a sudden a shop lifter going to be interrogated for 72 hours before they Mirandize them?

The current Miranda ruling has been standing for over 25 years and is well known and understood.
